In light of next week’s retreat in Chicago, I asked Fr Michael Sparough, SJ, to share some of his wisdom: What should we all do—and not do—to get prepared for God’s holy work on retreat? How can we make sure we are MOST open and ready?
As a Jesuit priest and retreat master at Bellarmine Retreat House, Fr Michael has been leading retreats for longer than many of us have been alive. He’d never claim to be “an expert”, but his deep wisdom was collected over decades of hosting spiritual seekers on retreat. Fr Michael calls himself a “charismatic Catholic…rooted in the deep tradition of the Catholic Church, but always listening for the fresh winds of the Spirit.” And so we trust his historic yet creative perspective.
Thankfully, Fr Michael doesn’t offer a list of requirements or duties. There’s nothing to achieve or earn. He simply suggests two specific ways to anchor our trust in the God who is closer than the air we breathe. His words and invitation are drenched in grace and hope. Amen and amen!
Whether you are joining us in Chicago (or NYC or Malibu) or not, you will find Fr Michael’s mercy-soaked wisdom helpful.
Grace and peace,
Aaron
